DASHING KICKS

There was a point, about 7 years ago, where a seismic shift occurred in my attitude towards wearing trainers. Previously, things were fairly clear cut, when wearing a suit I’d always lace up a pair of leather brogues or oxfords and then when in shorts or laid back attire the trainers would come out.
Of course I was aware of dudes like Dan Macmillian, GQ’s most stylish man of 2001 hanging out in his Savile Row suits with T-Shirts and white plimsolls, but at the time I just felt the look was too transatlantic for me. However, attitudes and tolerances change and as everyone is dressing more casually now-a-days I feel churlish not joining the throng. In fact, I’d go as far to say that I’ve really been enjoying mixing up my looks with the addition of sporty trainers.
I’m interested in the balance of form and function in menswear and footwear always makes a good case in point. From platform shoes that traditionally kept your feet elevated from the mud to hobnail climbing boots, shoes have been adapted to all terrains. Ultra light sprinting shoes with internal springs are great for runners but they don’t look so good with a suit. Interestingly, the new era of trainers have evolved to look fine with dress down tailoring, leather, rubber and tech materials combined mostly in an elegant way.
We have taken the idea of the modern urban trainer to the next level with the addition of our special lumatwill reflective tweed. We chose our Denim Raver design, an interweaving of fine Merino wool and reflective threads as the blue compliments so many other colours. The modern tweed is finished with a waterproof teflon coating which works well as a protection from dirt and rain. For the overall design we’ve gone with a classic dress trainer look; a fresh white rubber sole stitched with a leather toe cap and heel in navy. This leaves the side panels, which are less likely to wear down, free for our unique reflective tweed.

The whole shoe is finished off with white laces which literally tie the design together as well as ensuring a snug fit as you dash around town.
Available in UK mens sizing 8 – 11 and cost £240.

At Dashing Tweeds we are always interested in experimenting with colour, Donegal yarns with their famous nepps of different coloured wools are a great starting point and as a first for us we have even created our own yarn. The Nike Bespoke Labs which are only in NY & London allow you to design your own Bespoke Air Force 1’s with the finest, premium materials. Kal has designed quite a few since the inception of the program. Due to his line of work, Kal travels frequently to Europe. He tries to stop in to the London lab whenever the opportunity is there. Typically Kal likes to theme his designs in London to reflect something English. That’s part of the reason he wanted Dashing’s tweed, as a result of it’s British heritage and tradition in the culture, which is evident in his Robinson Crusoe and Daniel Defoe customised sneakers using our cloth.
