You may be reading the title of this piece and thinking that we have diversified into shrouds or even mummification linen; not quite yet. The reality of life today is that people are living longer than ever and starting whole new careers in midlife. It can be a very refreshing time of reinvention, perhaps heading back to school for a while before embarking on a new road.

My degree was in biology and I was always fascinated by evolution, it seems to occur in sudden saltatory jumps; much like life. One minute you change job or hit the gym and suddenly you become a smarter, leaner person. Or perhaps like a young Clown fish you have decided to change sex. Whatever your metamorphosis one thing is for sure; you’ll need some new clothes.

Fashion is highly influenced by the natural selective forces of society. Stiff Victorian suits are obviously completely passé, but so too are tailoring styles from just a decade ago. If you have been stuck in a niche, you may suddenly find yourself completely behind the times. This is where we can offer you a great deal of help.

Our designs are informed by the changing demands of work and leisure. We are in continuous conversation with customers as to what garments provide the optimum balance of elegance and practicality.

There is no doubt that clothing has been on a steady journey towards the less formal. I felt it hit a nadir a couple of years ago but now I’m pleased to report that the current direction is up. Tailored clothes made to last and look good are both sustainable and desirable. Personal style is the order of the day and constant change in the name of fashion is now deeply unfashionable.

Finding your personal style as you grow older is one of life’s pleasure, the insecurity of youth is replaced by the confidence of wisdom, and this should allow you to be more daring in your choices.

At Dashing Tweeds we never shy away from experimenting with all aspects of clothing and style in order to give you as much choice as possible. We delight in offering you styling advice as to the best colour combinations and tailoring silhouettes and how to make your wardrobe work well for every occasion.

Dress norms can now be a bit of a minefield, gone are the days when you could simply wear a suit and tie to work and then change into a cocktail or dinner suit in the evening.

However, wearing boring chinos and a lack lustre shirt are not going to impress your new hip co-workers or even your fresh date for the night. It’s time to remix the hereditary elements of tailoring and make something new. Remember when it comes to the evolution of tailored forms, there’s more to it than just the genes.

Our made to measure tailoring takes 6 weeks, so plan ahead.

Jackets £1,200, trousers £675, skirts £500 and waistcoats £550.

Soft tailored cigar jackets £850, bomber jackets £1,050.

 2 piece suits £1,625 and 3 piece suits £1,850

Coats from £1,550 dependant on length

We also offer an in-house bespoke service as well.
