For many Cheltenham means just one thing, a fabulous day at the races.

The famous meet has been going for over two hundred years and this year gallops off from Tuesday 14th March. Spread over four days Cheltenham races offers something for everyone from the grade 1 Gold Cup and Queen Mother Champion Chase to drinks tents, lunch tents, music and of course a chance to dress up.

Apart from the elation of an occasional win what I enjoy so much about the races is being thrown into a mixing pot of style and history. Race meets are a microcosm of culture, all walks of society rub along, united by a shared love of horse racing. Like all good parties there is a visceral atmosphere that ignites passion.

I have memories of Gladstone bag wielding touts, tic-tacing to each other atop their boxes, rakishly dressed in tweed caps and spivvy coats whilst an assortment of folk inspect their odds. Young ladies place bets whilst wearing delights ranging from last nights cropped ball dress to breeches and boaters, with dashing blades swanning around in sharp cut tweed suits and raglan coats keeping an ear out for tips. In the enclosures, owners look impeccable in country tweeds or barathea suits bedecked with binoculars whilst starlets ruffle in mink trimmed tweed. All the while, wiry mud splattered jockeys thrashing it out astride powerful thoroughbreds intent on a win. There really is nothing like a day at the races.

I always feel as a general rule in life, that one should be a participant not a voyeur. With this in mind Cheltenham gives you the ideal excuse for a new tweed suit and as time is fast approaching you need to really get thinking now. Our made to measure tailoring service takes six weeks, so you’ll need to order by next week for delivery in time for the races.

We design and stock an increasingly broad range of tweeds, all will look fabulous for Cheltenham although it’s up to you to reflect your personality in cloth and become the man or woman you wish through your dress.
