For many the chance to wear shorts is a right of passage, albeit from prep school days, that they are not keen to regress on. For others, wearing shorts represent a freedom that goes hand in hand with tousled hair and a surf board.

At the moment when sartorial standards are at a subsistence level of comfort and recent weather has been surprisingly mild, its been a good time to get your knees out. If like me you’re channeling your inner Rocky and skipping in exhausting three minute rounds, then shorts are a necessity.

I was pleasantly surprised by the positive response to my short suit recently aired on my Instagram Live tailored with our Gibbous cloth, see above, with many people expressing a desire for elegantly cut fine Merino wool shorts. As I mentioned they are essentially holiday wear but also look great when one is eventually invited to garden parties and BBQs this summer.

I do find our fine wool shorts both practical and comfortable. I favour a classic cut reminiscent of The Desert Rats with a turn up hanging just short of the knee, a rise high enough to sit on your natural waist, with hip pockets for cash, cards and dog walking accessories.

We have some good news which is that the made to measure tailors we use in the Czech Republic are going to start up in a few days. Their quality is excellent and we have been working with them for a while using our Scottish woven fabrics.
