The New Year is a great time to reflect on what we have achieved and to remind everyone what we do and why.

Quite simply, Dashing Tweeds is modernising tweed; the original sportswear of Great Britain.

We take the aspects of our fast moving urban life today and literally interweave them with the best, time proven benefits of sustainable wool. Some of our designs are fairly traditional and others such as our reflective Raver tweeds are entirely new.

The designs originate from our London and Hastings studios. To maximise our creativity we work directly with yarn samples using both hand weaving and CAD design work. We constantly experiment and can produce a great array of samples prior to production. We work closely with the film industry to create original designs to briefs. We also collaborate with designers as well as individuals and can weave any length starting with as little as 4 metres.

Once we agree on which hand woven or CAD designs we like best the chosen yarns and  technical details are sent to the British mills.

We mainly work with a fabulous niche mill in the Scottish borders and fabric finishers in Galashiels.

The technical information for our cloth designs are transferred on to punch rolls at the mill to ensure the production pieces are exactly right.

Not all our tweeds are for clothing, we often work with interior quality wools, the set of the weave is tighter and we arrange for the finishers to give the cloth a tougher, long lasting handle suitable for upholstery.

For an illustrious customer, we adapted one of our exciting weave designs for use on a sofa and complimented it with a plain blue weave for the base.

We work with a wide range of yarns, including intricately spun Japanese and Italian threads as well as classic British wools. We can also dye our own worsted shades using Pantone references. Our woven structures can be complex and use up to a maximum of 16 shafts on the production looms, typically cloth weights vary from 235g/8oz to 730g/25oz.

For jacquard designs we work with the famous mills in Suffolk. We can either recolour designs from our archive or develop new designs on CAD. The jacquard mills specialise in silk and cotton weaving.

Floral jacquard silk designs we developed for my family rock band – Hills Alive.
