As the sun kissed return to London one of the first parties to look forward to is the opening of Frieze.

Much to my dogs vexation his favourite stomping ground in Regent’s Park becomes the most richly embellished camp site in the world. Huge tents are erected and massive sculptures land by the herbaceous borders. Trucks bearing wooden treasure boxes reminiscent of Raiders of the Lost Ark rumble round the inner circle followed closely by a procession of champagne toting staff and the odd sniffer dog. It really is a sight to see the global art circus come to town.

A few days later the main broadwalk develops into a wafting catwalk as the London scene and many others from far and wide descend and inspect the offerings of the art dealer elite.

As well as musing over the art, I love nothing better than people watching. Decoding sartorial messages is fascinating, from the conservative tailoring of the dealers informing you that they are reliable and trusty folk, to the devil-may-care ease of the super rich with nothing to prove, through to the elegant panache of young art collectors, and the odd lost soul bobbing by in prescribed threads from the high street, the pageant is compelling.

Individuality is the order of the day when visiting Frieze. Once your artistic eye is attuned you are in a receptive mood to evaluate the meaning of life though art, and everything takes on a new significance. Fresh eyes enliven mundane objects with meaning and you start to consider the inherent value of yourself and things around you. My grandmothers family were art dealers from Frankfurt and I’ve realised through the beautiful works handed down to me that everything you own should have merit and provenance. This is more important today as we are subject to so much throwaway rubbish.

With these ideas in mind it becomes a joy to decide what version of yourself you are going to project through your clothing. As a painter choses from his palette so you can combine items from your wardrobe to create a harmony or even discord about your person.
