WRAP UP THIS WINTER IN A DASHING SCARF

I never cease to marvel at the transformative qualities of fabric, how a simple strip of cloth can conjure up so much passion, thrill and mystery. Take the scarf for example, seemingly the simplest item of clothing. Meditating on the scarf floods my mind with imagery, Toulouse-Lautrec’s poster for Aristide Brunant leads to absinthe quaffing dwarves surrounded by exotic dancers,there to images of disastrous diaphanous cloth wrapped around Isadora Duncan’s throat whilst driving at breakneck speeds.

This is just as I write at lunch time, come the evening and incarnations of Dr Who may well appear besides Laurence of Arabia and Mad Max. In terms of impression the simple scarf packs a punch.

A good scarf is very adaptable, in common with other forms of neck wear the scarf can be tied in numerous ways, it’s easy to get into a habitual rut but recently with so much change in the air I’ve been enjoying sartorial experiments tying all things in different ways, even my shoes laces with a super swift Ian knot.

This autumn we have designed two ranges of scarves one in Merino lambswool and the other in a cashmere and Merino blend (5% cashmere, 95% Merino).

Both scarves are nice and long at seven feet allowing for many forms of knots and twists. We’ve created a range of beautifully colourful checks in our lambswool scarves, colours to blend with or offset any outfit. They feature a classic twisted fringe and at 20” wide there’s enough fabric to really keep you warm.

We’ve woven our cashmere mix scarves in a range of wonderful colours. The graduated shades of the warp create an ombre effect across the wonderful twenty eight inch width. The looser set of the weft creates a light more floaty scarf which looks great when thrown around your neck in a devil may care explorer fashion. The layers of cloth have a protective function and should help keep away unwanted bugs as well as the cold and rain.

As well as a treat for yourself, scarves do make wonderful presents. If you are ever lost for a surprise gift to an inamorata, do give them one. Sizing is never a problem, and I’m sure they will be delighted just how generously large ours are.

The Giving of Gifts

You can be rest assured about the sustainability of our products. Wool is one of the most sustainable fibres and all our fabrics are woven in Great Britain. They will last for many many years but when they are finally no longer needed, wool biodegrades, leaving nothing but good memories.

Jumpers are a staple on the Christmas list but the novelty ones are often made from acrylic and not that great for the environment. Our pure wool Donegal jumpers are beautifully soft and textured giving a lift to any outfit.

Holly has used her design skills from Check Me Out to weave a beautiful range of lambswool scarves. They feature exciting large scale checks that will bring colour to everyones lives. The scarves are woven as part of a long tasselled blanket and we have saved some before they are cut into scarves should you wish for a lovely rug over six by four feet in size.

Tweed caps are one of our best sellers at this time of year. Ours are all hand made in Yorkshire by traditional milliners. The flat caps, in our modern tweed designs and available in a range of classic and modern shapes.

As well as tweed things we are also helping out friends who have interesting brands, stocking their products in store. Shaun Gordon’s ties are exquisitely made and his range of colours is superlative.

Involute Industries is a new niche company specialising in high tolerance engineered cufflinks, you may wonder why cuff links need precision engineering but these ones made from jet fighter alloys can be made to rotate at over twenty thousand revs per minute, something to take your mind off any dull meeting.

Billy Tannery is a charming company set up by Jack at his family goat farm and specialising in goat leather bags and accessories.
